New Product – Precision Seed Planter

The ASC team has prototyped and tested a new precision seed planter that when pulled behind a donkey or cow:

  1. Effectively carves a trench in the ground at two different depths specific to the depths specified for seed and fertilizer, then
  2. places a measured does of seed, and fertilizer within recommended proximity of each other than,
  3. the rear wheel presses the trench closed, whilst driving the seed and fertilizer discs.

Applying fertilizer in this way reduces the quantity/cost of fertilizer used, and increases yields, therefore earning the farmer more money in their farming efforts.

The goals of the design were to:

  1. Reduce material and weight of the finished assembly to reduce manufacturing costs.
  2. Reduce welded assemblies to further reduce manufacturing costs.
  3. To be made primarily out of one material – 5mm laser cut plate steel
  4. To be assembled locally in area of sale, using parts kits prepared in Asia

The planter is currently being field tested. Please contact ASC if you are interested in any more information on the product.

New Product – The Kupika Stove

ASC has designed a natural draft cooking stove for urban use. It is ASC’s goal to design this product so that it can be built locally in Zambia, in high volume, be delivered to the client for a whole sale price of 15-18 USD, to perform with no smoke, and to burn with characteristics suited for local Zambian kitchen practices. The Kupika stove has significant performance benefits and has been granted a patented. The Kupika is optimized to burn wood chips (600-800g) and burns for an average of 75 minutes. After the stove has finished burning, the wood chips turn into charcoal and can be used in local charcoal burners for an additional 30 mins of cooking time. Please see video clip for more information.
